Hi,
I agreed to the part that if the devices belong to you, you should set the rules for loaning. Now to broaden the topic you can see OSS as a Public Library where everybody can participate.
Many of the not so open code business are contributing to the community in funds, and personally know more than one that would like to remain undisclosed. That was the case long time ago for Nokia.
Running Small & Medium Business definitely can afford to by their own devices. For startups the budge might be more limited.
I vote for openness and for welcoming everybody. People will follow your ideas not the way you implement them :-),
My timeboxed 2 cents,
Rem

Lets keep in mind that MNFI, which as far as I know still manages and develops LDP, is not start-up community. It has always been open source community and hopefully stays as such. Important part of open source is contributing back. With closed source start-ups I see that nearly impossible. If someones intention is to start business (start-up refers to that afaik) and produce closed source apps, then for example New Factory can offer better support and facilities than MNFI. But as I said before, I will not fight against the will of our open source based community. Both are allowed, but the other is preferred. I am pro ‘open source’ and will never change ;)
