Lets keep in mind that MNFI, which as far as I know still manages and develops LDP, is not start-up community. It has always been open source community and hopefully stays as such. Important part of open source is contributing back. With closed source start-ups I see that nearly impossible. If someones intention is to start business (start-up refers to that afaik) and produce closed source apps, then for example New Factory can offer better support and facilities than MNFI. But as I said before, I will not fight against the will of our open source based community. Both are allowed, but the other is preferred. I am pro 'open source' and will never change ;)

Hi,
I agreed to the part that if the devices belong to you, you should set the rules for loaning. Now to broaden the topic you can see OSS as a Public Library where everybody can participate.
Many of the not so open code business are contributing to the community in funds, and personally know more than one that would like to remain undisclosed. That was the case long time ago for Nokia.
Running Small & Medium Business definitely can afford to by their own devices. For startups the budge might be more limited.
I vote for openness and for welcoming everybody. People will follow your ideas not the way you implement them :-),
My timeboxed 2 cents,
Rem

[...] LDP extends that program by adding another way for developers to get their hands on devices. In other words, intention is not to replace MeeGo project global efforts, but create a device program with lightweight bureaucracy which operates only locally. We don’t ship devices. More about both programs, community device program and LDP, can be found from here. [...]

Thanks! It has been fun and that is most important. 'Just for fun' as one of my idols has said before. PhD research has been going on already for about 3 months and first results should be available shortly.

Hi Texrat and thanks for your kind words and support. We both have been busy at our own stuff, you with CDP and I with LDP! I'm confident that both programs will make a lot of developers happy and boost MeeGo. I think that after LDP has been running for a while, it might be useful to share ideas and experiences.

Hey, Jarkko, thanks for the mention! I hope your program goes well, and sorry I have not been able to help much yet. Let's be sure and share ideas though.

Yes, I think we had a chat about the case. I'm still trying to summarize all I learnt in SF and then I start sending follow-up mails. I hope we'll get similar feedback you got, and certainly we will follow your footsteps :)
Good luck!
